About Us

Assured Solar is owned and operated by Rob Taisey of North Yarmouth, Maine.

Rob has a long and broad background in the field of power generation and water systems.  As a kid spending summers on Bustins Island off the coast of Freeport, Maine, Rob learned first hand what it's like to live self-sufficiently, off-grid from mainland electric power.  Under the expert guidance of his father and uncles he gained a working knowledge how to maintain and operate generators, water pumps, and heaters.  After graduating from Bowdoin College, Rob used his knowledge and skill in these areas to work as an independent contractor (in the late 70’s and early 80’s) with Dave Sleeper of Brook Farm Industries in Falmouth, Maine.  Dave had resigned his job as a Research Engineer with SD Warren Paper Company to become one of the early pioneers of Solar Energy in Maine (on the bleeding edge, as they say).  Working with Dave was a great learning experience for Rob. Together they installed Day Star brand flat plate collectors for hot water systems, field assembling components which today are available pre-packaged.  Together Rob and Dave custom built control panels designed by Dave, and used these in their installations.  A number of solar hot water heating systems, both residential and commercial in the greater Portland area are still in operation today.  When the solar tax credits available at that time were repealed, the solar hot water industry in Maine quickly dried up.

Rob went from working 10 gallons-per-minute (GPM) pumps you can hold in one hand, to working on 12,000 HP/100,000 GPM pumps, whose motor alone weighed 60 tons.  As a Field Service Engineer for Combustion Engineering in Newington, New Hampshire, Rob traveled and worked on large scale nuclear energy construction and modification projects around the country.  Along the way he picked up valuable project management and engineering experience.  

Fast forward to 2005, with ten years of business ownership under his belt, Rob decided the time was again ripe to re-enter the solar market.  He updated his state certification to install solar thermal systems, and in March 2006 Rob took the NABCEP Introduction to Photovoltaics course, passing the NABCEP exam for the introductory course.  Currently Rob has two 3KW photovoltaic installations planned, a prerequisite for sitting for the full NABCEP exam and certification.

2006 has been a year for evaluating products, setting up business systems and supplier relationships.  We have invested in safety equipment, special tooling and fixtures, and used them to complete domestic hot water, and hot air systems.  

In 2007 and 2008 we have gotten a few more projects under our belt, and learned. More exciting projects are in the works. Assured Solar is well on its way, providing cost-effective solar solutions to residential, commercial and municipal markets in Maine, New Hampshire, and parts of Massachusetts.  If you’re in the market for a solar system, please keep us in mind!
